To James, Ian and all at Accord Stageworks,
First, to James & Ian, many thanks for all your assistance both on our Get-in day and on the evening of our final show: the two of you were friendly and industrious and made both periods of the show week – usually stressful ones – productive and enjoyable. I know Trisha & myself had nothing but good things to say about our dealings with you.
Now to the hire material, since this is after all what I’m writing to recommend. The set itself was of such a high quality, it comes across as importantly as any character in the show, and was both versatile and completely immersive. A particular gem is the rolling back wall, an eye-catching window design with a street backdrop behind it than can be backlit and crossed by cast to great effect. I would advise future companies to evaluate their theatre space first, as it is a wide set, but even then can be easily chopped and changed and made to fit any theatre space.
The personal props that come with the set are the icing on the cake. You won’t find a better set of Dentist’s items affordably, the chair is frightening (if heavy), the drill looks the part, the mask and inhaler are bound to get a laugh and the numerous other bits and pieces such as the many fake flowers will save a lot of trawling around for your production team.
I leave the best till last. The plants are stunning. When Pod #3 was first revealed on our opening night, the applause was delayed for about ten seconds while the audience just ooh-ed and aah-ed. Not only will they absolutely make your show, they are a boost for the whole cast and crew just to have them around. Everyone will want to be eaten by Pod #4 (which is about the size of a Landrover) and the Puppeteers will have an absolute whale of a time. The best Audrey II’s for hire in the UK without a doubt!
Best regards,
Davey Thaxter (Director, King’s College London 2011)
